Totem’s mission is to be there for everyone – which, first and foremost, includes our clients. Sticking true to that motto, we kicked off the summer by attending the Georgia Association of School Personnel Administrators (GASPA) Spring Conference.
We joined our clients in the public school district sector at this annual gathering where professionals join together to share best practices in human resources for Georgia’s K-12 public schools. Totem has attended this event for nearly a decade, and each year we are proud to support our clients and gather key takeaways from the conference that impact the public school system.
This year, there was a heavy focus on recruiting and retention. As you’re aware, this is a large challenge for all employers, but especially those in education. GASPA featured lectures dedicated to this topic, reminding us that we’re in the people business, and by taking better care of our teams, we’re, in turn, increasing our credibility and retention rates. A key part of this is offering the best employee benefits available.
On that note, GASPA also highlighted the importance of caring for your employees and supporting HR staff. The keynote speaker was GSSA Superintendent in Residence, Dr. Curtis Jones, whose inspiring and entertaining presentation conveyed support and motivation for HR professionals who understand that when the going gets tough, find HR!
HR professionals are carrying a lot of weight – between their day-to-day tasks, recruiting and retention efforts, and handling open enrollment, HR teams need all the support you can provide.
Additionally, the event presented a legal update from Phil Hartley, of Pereira, Kirby, Kinsinger and Ngyuen, LLP on FMLA, ADA and WC Leave and how these important aspects all work together and cross over into the world of employee benefits.
